<a href="http://soundofseventythree.bandcamp.com/album/eternal-grace-ep">Eternal Grace by Sound of Seventy Three</a>

Wow two posts in as many days! If I keep this up I might actually get a reputation for being productive!! At the request of John at magnatune I have posted some more of my music on bandcamp in the form of the above EP. Except for "The Great Rest" and "Autobots" - the oldest tunes of the lot - this is most everything that I have finished arrangement-wise that is actually recorded. Of course there are a bunch of my old live-band tunes but we never recorded those in a presentable manner so they will have to wait. I am contemplating putting The Great Rest and Autobots up too just to get everything out there. If I have time today I probably will. Who knows maybe there will be another post tomorrow?

Sound of Seventy Three... on Magnatune?

I just got this reply to my inquiry about working with Magnatune:

"I listened to all 5 of your albums on bandcamp, and really like your stuff. Pretty varied genre-wise, but always at an excellent quality level.

I'd be interested in releasing all of them as one album on Magnatune. I quickly counted up the minutes, and it seems like it adds up to about 40 minutes. Is that right? Do you have any other music too?

-john"

I am EXTREMELY excited about working with Magnatune. Why is this exciting? Well for starters they don't work with just anyone:

"We don't accept everything. In fact, getting on Magnatune is intentionally difficult: we accept only about 5% of what gets sent to us. Your album has to blow our mind."

I am honored to be included in that 5%. Additionally they are a next-generation label that seem to really work with and on behalf of their artists. I've been listening to Magnatune for years through iTunes and am honored to be joining as one of their artists.

The So73 Stylophone EP Now Available

I've finally gotten some time to upload more finished tracks to the Sound of Seventy Three Bandcamp page. As well as uploading the remix and b-side to Shades of Grey I've uploaded a bunch of tracks from earlier in the year that all feature the original Stylophone, Stylophone Beatbox, or both. If you've been curious what can be done with these instruments when stripped of their usual campy or cheesy context in which they usually appear check it out. As always thanks for listening!

Video for "Shades of Grey" now on YouTube

Music available for download: http://soundofseventythree.bandcamp.com/track/shades-of-grey

Here is the video for "Shades of Grey". Its nothing too fancy but I think the video slideshow made in Picasa of shots taken with my Digital Harinezumi 2++ in monochrome mode fit the mood rather well. I had thought of doing something much more ambitious with the same feel however just don't have the time right now.

New Song "Shades of Grey"

My latest tune is now available for download at Bandcamp.com. Its titled Shades of Grey and features a monochrome mode Digital Harinezumi 2++ shot run through the Poladroid as the cover.

Musically this features two new additions to my studio the Korg Kaossilator and Korg Mini-KP. I have been wanting these two devices for years so I was excited to finally make some music with them. In this song the synth bass, electronic percussion, and "theremin" line are all provided by the Kaossilator. The guitars are my Reverend Warhawk electric guitar run through a Vox AmPlug plugged into the Mini-KP for delay or reverb. The Stylophone is filtered and delayed by the Mini-KP.

I have to say the Kaossilator is a little harder to play than I would have initially thought. I mean to make noise and effects or generate random music it is great but if you are actually trying to play a musical line it and be quite challenging. I've found using a stylus quite helpful and I am investigating adding a grid to the track pad to make hitting specific notes easier. Its definitely inspirational and fun to use and a great way to generate quick musical ideas. As always thanks for listening.
